SD cakes is run by Saima Hebel (myself ) and my husband David Hebel. They specialise in wedding cakes that are very unique and have a wow factor. But these wedding cakes don’t look just good, but also taste amazing. After studying for 8 years in the cake field, finally Saima and David decided to turn their talent into a business.

Since childhood, Saima was incredibly fascinated by different exotic flowers and fashion designs. She began to put this passion into perspective by drawing different Henna designs on paper. Her love for this grew day by day and finally, in 2010, she started learning about cake decoration while baking at ‘Brennan’s Cook Shop’ in County Cork, where they offer PME professional courses.
This was the beginning of Saima’s cake career journey. Once she finished her professional Diploma in Cake Decorating, she started to put her skills into practise and tried new recipes and different designs. Saima loves bold colours, intricate details and adding the ‘Wow’ factor to all her creations and this is a hallmark of all her wedding cake designs!

This is where things get very interesting. Inspiration comes in many forms for Saima, and she can find it from anywhere.

From Bridal wear, bridal shoes, flowers, paintings, drawings and more, however her biggest source of inspiration and ideas for wedding cake designs come from bridal wears. Bridal dresses, according to Saima, have gorgeous, intricate details which help her to design the wedding cakes.

Floral cakes are definitely Saima’s speciality when it comes to using cake decorating for pleasure. As a child, she was always fascinated with flowers, overloading her bedroom wall with flower paintings, or she’d use henna to make flowers on her sister’s hands. If you saw the world through Saima’s eyes, you’d feel that the natural world is brimming with exotic, enchanting and mysterious flora so why not recreate them with your own hands?
Baking has never been a chore for Saima. In fact, she could do it every day, every hour, every minute. Sometimes, when the going gets tough or when the predicaments seem too much, you’ll often find Saima revert back to baking, allowing her to calm down, nourishing her mind and keeping her positive. It also improves her concentration and focus, where all the senses are activated as she bakes, whether it’s the soft feeling of the crumbling flour or the aroma of the freshly made red velvet cake!

So, if you’re looking for a truly unique wedding cake, perhaps one that resonates your wedding dress or is simply too stunning to eat (but also tastes amazing), check out SD Cakes here and get in touch with them to help design your dream wedding cake. You won’t regret it!
